Whooping Cough: What Clinicians Need to Know

Bay Area counties are offering free or discounted pertussis (whooping cough) vaccines as the bacterial infection spreads throughout California.

As of June 2010, there have been five infant deaths and 910 cases of pertussis in California, compared to 219 cases and no deaths last year. The state has declared the whooping cough outbreak an epidemic.
