Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) is a standardized medical form on bright pink paper that families must have available to show emergency responders what specific treatments a seriously ill patient does or does not want. The SFMS is the host of a grant to promote broader use of POLST in clinical settings in San Francisco. Please click here to view more information about end-of-life care decision making.

San Francisco is exposed to a wide variety of hazards, both natural and man-made. Earthquakes, fires, severe storms, power outages, and acts of terrorism are just some of the potential emergencies we may encounter. SFMS strongly urges physicians and their patients to learn about how to prepare yourself and your family for an emergency. Why not spruce up your disaster planning knowledge by reading the SFMS’s emergency preparedness guidelines?
