Welcome to the San Francisco Medical Society (SFMS). Founded in 1868, the SFMS is a membership-based nonprofit organization that unites and supports the local physician community and works to improve the health of all San Francisco residents.

The SFMS mobilizes its members to act as legislative advocates for physicians and patients and to work on community health programs that improve access and quality of care. The SFMS also serves as a resource for news and information about local health care issues, holds events and creates educational opportunities for physicians, sponsors a physician referral service for the public, and provides peer review of complaints and disputes. SFMS distributes the following publications: San Francisco Medicine, a journal published ten times per year; Action News, a bimonthly e-mail/fax alert; The Annual Membership Directory and Desk Reference; and the SFMS Blog.
